08/18-08/20

Recommended Posts

Where: Cape May Point

When: August 18th - 20th

08/18:

Start at CMP with a day on the beach, follow that with a sunset over the Delaware Bay and some dinner. Then it's overnight fishing for flounder from the beach.  Never had a problem in 30+ years going there. Always catch something off the beach and the stars are off the hook on a clear nite.

08/19:

0700: Breakfast at the Sunset Beach Grille (gotta support the local economy!) And ride to Batona on as little blacktop as possible While still including Ward's Pastry in OCNJ

1200: Make camp and go run trails

1700: Make a big fire,

1800:.eat a big dinner

1900-2345: sit around a fire telling stupid stories and laughing

08/20: break camp and head for home.

I may be a little loopy.that weekend. I'll be flying into JFK from Paraguay that week and then driving a couple hundred miles in summer traffic. But I'll be there.

How much actual wheeling will there be? I will either be in a stock Jeep or my Subaru. Is it dog friendly beach?

The 18th to 20th is Saturday thru Monday.

Is this correct?

Or is intended to be Friday the 17th, thru Sunday 19th?

Gotta be honest, I haven't run through Wharton in years. From what I hear it is all pretty mild wheeling these days

I dunno how the hell to edit on Mobile. Steve, I'll double check for you on the dog friendly thing. If it is good to go, I may bring my dog.

The former is correct. I'm flying into JFK from South America on Friday afternoon (8/17), and my trip starts about 10PM Thursday, so getting home and then down to the beach might be a little bit much for one day.

I have two greyhounds. Interested in seeing what they think of a beach. They have never seen one. Or sand for that matter

It looks like you can have dogs on the beach north of the cape May channel after 4pm, which doesn't help us,  since we want to be south of the Channel where there are no restrictions on what time you need to leave the beach.

I know some people sneak their dogs onto the beach at night for walks, but we would be stationary for a few hours. Tough call. I may throw caution to the wond and bring Buddy. He hasn't seen a beach in over 5 years.

I’ll probably leave the pups at home then. No need getting anyone into trouble.

Cape May to Batona is about an 1.75 hour drive via highway.

@Dan do you want to get there quick to set up camp or take a more casual route?

Plus, it appears you're planning on staying up for 24+ hours?

I am going to try my best to get to the ride on Sunday, but a lot will depend on the weather and the condition of the Jeep.

The squirrels will have Dan’s campsite all set up for him when he arrives

Sorry for the late reply Just getting back from a west coast trip.

I'm perfectly fine taking backroads up to Batona. As for how long I plan on staying, that depends heavily on how my kitchen renovations are moving along.

That's what I pay em for!

Did you reserve a site yet? They tend to book fast.

I'm going to try and make an appearance.  I'm back-to-back with a week in vegas, camping with Kaleigh, this even, then WFTW.  Good news is camping with Kaleigh is in CMP.  So there's a possibility.

For those who need to know where to go in CMP:

Rally point is at the parking lot of Crystal and Alexander in Cape May Point.  Walk onto the beach and cut to the right along the jetty. That is Sunset beach. To your left is "bay beach" which is part of CMP and requires beach tags during the day.
